Thales Hawkei PMV
Thales Hawkei builds on its significant experience with the Australian Bushmaster program to design this next generation vehicle. Drawing on international and local expertise provided by Boeing, PAC Group or Plasan, and numerous Australian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), the vehicle’s design incorporates world-leading advanced technologies. The Thales Hawkei is designed within the framework of modernising the light wheeled vehicles used by the Australian Army.

The Hawkei's side clearance is 40%, with a turning circle of approximately 12 metres to the curb and a 1,200 mm unprepared depth. The Hawkei suspension and axles are constructed with AxleTech 3000 series fully independent progressive coil springs with double wishbones and external planetary reduction axles.
The Hawkei offers excellent situational awareness with two large ballistic windows at the front and two small windows on each side. This reduces the level of damage and increases the survivability of a vehicle. The Thales Hawkei is a mobile, versatile and above all well protected vehicle. It combines a high level of ballistic and blast protection in a lightweight, highly manoeuvrable and easy to use airlift vehicle that has been designed for maximum performance. A systems approach to vehicle protection includes a mine protection layer integrated into the Hawkei's hull design, while its ballistic protection technology is designed to be easily dismantled for transport and then refitted by a two-man crew in less than 30 minutes without the use of specialist equipment. This innovative design allows the Hawkei to operate in a fully protected configuration, which can then be removed and upgraded for specific missions. The explosive charge protection is integrated into the hull and the entire vehicle system has been packaged for simplicity and optimization.
The Thales Hawkei PMV is powered by a 3.2-litre, direct-injection, six-cylinder diesel engine that produces 225kW and 680Nm of torque at 2,000rpm. The transmission is a six-speed automatic. The 250-litre fuel capacity gives a range of over 1,000km, dropping to 800km when towing a two-wheel-drive Hawkei trailer. It can travel at a maximum road speed of 115km/h with a maximum range of 600km.
